Course Objectives

  • Understand the importance of personal hygiene and self-care before caring for others.

  • Apply safe and hygienic cleaning methods across various areas of the home.

  • Identify suitable cleaning materials and products for different surfaces.

  • Demonstrate safe practices when using household appliances and cleaning tools.

  • Manage laundry, ironing, and general household upkeep responsibly.

  • Maintain safety when cleaning around children, elderly persons, pets, or high-risk individuals.

  • Recognise and prevent household hazards to ensure a safe home environment.

Summary

This course equips the learner with essential skills and knowledge to perform household chores safely, hygienically, and efficiently.

 

It focuses on personal grooming, maintaining cleanliness in different areas of the home, handling cleaning materials correctly, and practising good hygiene in caring for household members, including high-risk individuals such as children, the elderly, and pets.

 

The course combines theory, demonstrations, and practical exercises to ensure learners develop confidence and competence in everyday home-care duties.

Course Content

  • Personal Grooming: Importance of personal hygiene, dental and nail care, bathing routines.

  • Hygiene in the Household: Cleanliness standards, handwashing, food hygiene, and safe food handling.

  • Types of Cleaning: Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and wiping. Choosing suitable cleaning tools and products.

  • Bedroom Cleaning: Regular cleaning routines, changing beddings, dusting, and vacuuming practices.

  • Kitchen Cleaning & Electrical Safety: Cleaning methods, appliance handling, post-cooking cleaning, and electrical safety rules.

  • Bathroom Cleaning & Laundry: Step-by-step bathroom cleaning, use of cleaning agents, hand vs. machine washing, detergent use, ironing care.

  • Cleaning with High-risk Persons: Safe cleaning practices around children, elderly, sick, or disabled persons; household accident prevention.

  • Cleaning with Pets: Managing pet hair, odour, and hygiene using appropriate cleaning products.

  • Safety at Home & Fall Prevention: Electrical safety, ladder use, preventing slips and falls.

  • Practical & Quiz: Hands-on cleaning tasks, review, and final assessment.
