INTRODUCTION TO ELDERCARE

Course Objectives:

At the end of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Understand the ageing process and common chronic conditions in the elderly.

  • Develop effective communication techniques with elderly persons.

  • Learn to monitor basic health indicators and recognize early signs of distress.

  • Perform essential Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) safely and confidently.

  • Promote safety through infection control, fall prevention, and emergency response readiness.

Summary:

This course provides caregivers with the essential knowledge and practical skills to support elderly individuals safely and compassionately. The aim is to provide a grounding in Eldercare focused on the key competencies necessary for daily elder care, communication, safety, and basic health monitoring.

  • Infection Control

  • Falls Prevention

  •  ADL: Toileting & Basic Skin Care

  • ADL: Personal Hygiene, Grooming & Dressing

  • ADL: transfer, Positioning and Mobility

  • Assisting to serve medication for the elderly

  • ADL: Feeding

  • Nutrition and Hydration
