Course Objectives:
At the end of this course learners should be able to:

Ensure a safe home environment – Identify household hazards, prevent falls, maintain infant safety.

Apply proper hygiene and feeding techniques – Handwashing, sterilising, feeding, and introducing solids safely.

Perform basic infant grooming and dressing – Diaper changing, bathing, cord care, and swaddling.

Handle common infant care situations – Manage sleep patterns, crying, and safe handling techniques.

Reinforce safe and nurturing Practices – Promote safe, clean, and comfortable infant care routines.

Course Outline:
1. Home Safety
-
Safe home environment, danger signs, room-specific safety (bathroom, bedroom, kitchen).
-
Fall prevention: window locks, safety gates, straps.
2. Hygiene & Infant Feeding
-
Handwashing (7-step WHO technique), cleaning and sterilising bottles (boiling, steam, UV).
-
Cleaning baby toys (plastic, fabric, bath).
-
Formula milk preparation, burping, assisting breastfeeding, introducing solids after 6 months.
3. Grooming & Dressing
-
Diaper changing (for boys/girls), rash prevention.
-
Infant bathing (steps, eye/hair/body/cord care).
-
Swaddling for comfort and security.
4. Handling Common Infant Situations
-
Sleep patterns, recognising tired signs.
-
Managing crying and soothing techniques.
-
Holding techniques: cradle, shoulder, face-to-face.

Do’s and Don’ts of infant handling.
